Jesús Velázquez Lucio (JVL): The biorefinery is an analogue of the oil refinery, where different products such as fuels, plastics, medicines or products of interest are obtained from a single raw material. What we are trying to do in biorefineries is, from biological biomass such as food waste or aquatic biomass such as macro or microalgae, to obtain different types of high added value products and biofuels; in general terms, it is to take advantage of all that is possible of the raw material to obtain these compounds.
