Biorefinery Group has the pleasure to announce a presentation entitled “Ionic Liquids in the Pretreatment of Lignocellulosic Biomass: Economic and Scientific Challenges” by Professor José Antonio Pérez.
The presentation will take place Tuesday 18th Nov, 2014 in the Auditorium of the Food Research Department at the Autonomous University of Coahuila and begin at 10:00 a.m.
Jose Antonio Perez is a Mexican professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Autonomous University of Nayarit in western Mexico. He is in charge of the state ethanol demonstration facility where he was a leader on the development and starting up. During his undergrad studies he received a research internship at the National University in Mexico participating in the developments of hazardous analysis in a hydrosulfured diesel plants in two Mexican petroleum refineries. Two years later he received another undergrad research internship at The University of Texas at Austin where he studied the fluid dynamics in a characterization method for immersion lithography in the development of integrated circuits. In 2008, he was a visiting scientist in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology working on cleaning up gas streams, removing mercury from syngas, and oxidizing hydrocarbons in diesel engine exhaust, through a combination of experiments and computer models.
In 2011 and 2013, he was a guest scientist the Joint BioEnergy Institute working on to demonstrate the potential of agave bagasse as a sustainable fuel feedstock using ionic liquid pretreatment and several characterization methods. He has graduated four undergrad students, published five research papers and has consulted a number of private and public sector clients and it is available for short-term projects. Additionally, he is the president of the state section of the Mexican Institute of Chemicals Engineers, as well as a part of different professional associations such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB).
